I had the privilege of test running the beta version of the new Canon EOS 7D Mark II (thanks Canon Europe!) and I just love the new optical viewfinder HUD, the stunning shooting frame rate and AF speed, the intervalometer, and so many other new features that can make my 5D MK III a bit jealous — actually, I believe they are the perfect match for each other, combining their unique strengths to create unique imagery.
Regarding the image quality, and even taking into account that I’ve only used a beta product (thus, it’s not representative of the best possible output), I find it to be quite superior to the old EOS 7D (which as already amazing, as most of my portraits from India can prove), showing less chroma and luminance noise in high ISO and in long exposures. If you pair this camera with the new glass, like the EF 16-35 f4 IS L, the results are excellent and they really raise the bar. The ergonomics are a close match to the 5D MK III, which makes it all so natural, conveying the same feeling of robustness and reliability.
To sum up, the new EOS 7D Mark II is a truly remarkable camera and I can’t wait to put my hands on a final production model. Until, then I hope you enjoy these two photos taken with the beta version in the Algarve coastline, Portugal.
